Yes, there was some excitement in the fourth quarter, with back-to-back interceptions - one from each team - and some sloppy play producing a few anxious moments, but for the most part this one belonged to Brewster, which held on for a 42-28 victory.
Brewster (8-0) hosts No. 3 Somers (7-1) in next week's semifinals. Game time is expected to be Friday at 7 p.m.
The Bears built a 35-13 lead by halftime, and went up 42-13 when quarterback Jack Guida - who continued to shred defenses - broke loose for a 66-yard touchdown scamper on the second play of the third quarter. Guida appeared to be down for no gain, but rolled over the back of a would-be tackler and kept his feet, and his speed allowed him to pull away from a pack of pursuing defenders.
Guida finished with four touchdowns, and 253 yards rushing on 22 carries. He also had an interception late in the game. Henry Terry had two touchdowns, including a kickoff return for the Bears.
QB Nick Cunningham completed 26 of 45 attempts in the air for 288 yards and had three touchdowns, but three interceptions slowed the Sailors (5-3) down.
